spring equinox I ostara
Spring Equinox is that time of year where energy workers, sound healers, moon lovers and sun worshippers start to ascend out of their winterly nests to take a peek at the sprouts of they have sewn.
Equinoxes happen twice a year, once to herald life, and the other as a beginning to winter hibernations with the Autumn equinox in September. An equinox is a fleeting moment in which the plane of Earth’s equator passes through the centre of the Sun’s disk where the light equals the dark, the daytime is exactly the same length as the night time. The word ‘equinox’ is derived from the Latin aequinoctium, aequus (equal) and nox (genitive noctis) (night).
Cultures throughout time have worshipped and adhered to the Equinoxes, with famous ones being at Stonehenge during the Stone Age, and Chichen Itza during the Mayan era in Mexico.
As one roam’s the grounds of Chichen Itza the mystery and magic of this place will permeate every fibre of your being. You’ll notice many carvings and stone figures in the shape of a snake. This isn’t just any snake, this is Kulkulkhan. Kulkulkhan (/kuːkuːlˈkän/) (“Plumed Serpent“, “Feathered Serpent“) is the name of a Maya snake deity. Although the presence of Kukulkhan can be felt all year round he comes to life twice a year during the spring and fall equinoxes at Chichen Itza. He’s been making an appearance for over 1000 years, with no special effects involved. As you can imagine, all kinds of weird and wonderful theories have been discussed over the years and the debate continues, even today. During the equinox in the late after the sun strikes off the northwest corner of the pyramid and cast a series of triangular shadows against the northwest balustrade, creating the illusion of a feathered serpent “crawling” down the pyramid. It’s an unbelievable and fleeting moment. It makes you wonder whether it is a result of purposeful design. As the sun sets, the snake seemingly slithers down the steps to join a stone serpent head that sits at the base of the great staircase.
It is also a time known in other cultures as Ostara named after the Germanic lunar goddess – a time of fertility, and the start of earth coming into colour again. What comes with all of this, is a shift in energy, where nature invites us to honour the masculine and feminine energies, and the focus inwards of the dark stillness of winter, explodes into a brightness with an outwardly buoyant light. It’s a place where Heaven and Earth integrate to help us tap into that potency of creation and breaks us open allowing the percolating life inside to finally express itself into a glorious flower – ready to share its gift of beauty and scent with the world.
We can see this day as a powerful way to start your very own internal spring, a day of fresh starts, a day to breathe new life into your current life. It’s a window of opportunity in the annum to take a deep dive within, to really root out what is not making you happy, and not bringing you balance. A time to call in your will to your spirit waking up to new dreams, desires and ideas. It carries fresh live energy to enliven and inspire you. With our attention pointing to the sun, rather than the darkness of incubation, allowing us to shine brightly to coax these dream seeds to surface and manifest into physical reality. These actions will grow naturally and their energetic potential will be in full expression as we move toward the summer solstice.
I will be holding space for a virtual meditation sound ceremony Saturday 21st March at 8pm.
A tool for you to harness the energy of the frequencies and dive within and for an internal ‘Spring Clean’ of any un-balancing habits, or un-serving weeds, creating space for us to drop a replenishing ‘L. Bomb’ and soothe ourselves away with some sonic tonic.

In anticipation, here are some questions that we can ask ourselves:
What three words represent how you feel at the moment?
What three words would you like to feel?
What brings you joy?
What are you drawn towards?
What do you want to do more of?
What do you want to do less of?
